One small step (towards Klingondom)

Engineers create optical cloaking design for invisibility. Problem is, it only works for one wavelength of light. I can see it now, another 80s radar gun/detector arms race. After they get this thing to work for the entire visible spectrum, spy agencies will have no choice but to employ flies. Or maybe Batman. There is the Orwellian danger that we'll all begin walking around cloaked and invisible (props Ralph Ellison) unable to withstand the inconvenience of normal human contact. Wait, that would never happen.

I have a book for you: Programming the Universe by Seth Lloyd. Honestly, most of it makes little sense to me, but it's about quantum physics and the creation of information by entropy. Seems right up your alley, and there are, of course a few nice mind fucks thrown in there for fun too.

Let me know if you can't find it, and I'll send it to you. If I ever finish it, that is....

i'll look for it next time i'm in taipei 101. i have read some of Lloyd's articles on www.edge.org

as far as the universe as a computer. i like the douglas adams joke. remember listening to hitchhiker's guide driving back from n.carolina? oh, now i'm sad. lost youth, road trips, and at the most fundamental level, the universe is a fucking computer geek!
